Square Enix Opening A New Studio To Work On Console RPGs

Please get excited.

Quick, tell me what’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say Square Enix. If you answered with ‘unending disappointment,’ then bingo, you got it right! Square Enix has been known to be extremely disappointing in the last decade or so, their output nothing but disappointing sequels and handheld entries; really, the last full fledged console Square Enix game that wasn’t a complete disappointment right away was Final Fantasy XII, back in 2006, or eight years ago.

Anyway, that said, Square Enix has been on a sort of path to some redemption recently, and continuing along that line, they will be opening up a new studio to work on console RPGs. The new studio seems to be just getting off the ground, judging by their job listings (which seem to be asking for everything); unfortunately, if you are expecting some big name console JRPGs from this new studio, you might also be a little disappointed. , which means that while their new games will be on consoles, they will also be smaller in scale and scope.

Bah. Just give me Final Fantasy XV already.
