Starhawk: ‘PS3 Is Really The Only Console Out There That We Think Can Do This’

The PlayStation 3 will be completing half a decade this November and obviously some developers are already starting to claim that the current generation of gaming is aging very quickly, especially when compared to where PC gaming technology is heading.

But Senior Producer Harvard Bonin from Lightbox Interactive believes that certain gameplay elements from the upcoming Starhawk were only doable on the PlayStation 3. He said the following in an interview with Dualshockers.

You know, there are a ton of games that are really pushing the system (PlayStation 3), I mean it came out in 2006, PS3 has always had a gigantic amount of upside and we are just seeing it again, you know, nobody is going to be able to do the build and battle to the fidelity that we are doing it on any other console, and its just the way it is. Its fast, we are doing so much underneath the hood that you wont ever see, it looks pretty, yeah, but what you dont see is all the AI changing all their pathing and adjusting to what you are doing around the battlefield and then going inside these building and using them as cover points, things like that just so that they can be smart and help you in a reasonable way and PS3 is really the only console out there that we think that can do this.

Pretty bold words in my opinion, but hey, we are not complaining because the game’s mechanics seem to be really coming together nicely. Starhawk does not have a release date but is expected to be released sometime in 2012.
