The year of 2023 featured the most number of games released on Steam since the platform first went live all the way back in 2006. As tracked by SteamDB, 14,531 games were released on Steam throughout 2023, which is quite a big jump from 2022, which saw 12,559 releases on the platform.

Along with the number of releases, SteamDB also tracks a host of other metrics for video game releases, such as the top-rated titles on the platform, which is currently headed up by HoloCure – Save the Fans!, Lethal Company, and Pizza Tower.

Historic data provided on SteamDB reveals that 2023’s video game releases are almost double the number of games that were released just 5 years ago in 2018, which saw 8,900 games. Interestingly, SteamDB indicates that 184 games have already been released in 2024, which is more than double the number of games released in 2006, coming in at 71.

Steam recently revealed the winners of its annual Steam Awards, with the platform’s Game of the Year award going to hit RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.
