Steam Hits 17 Million Concurrent Users

More Steam concurrent users than total Wii U or PS Vita owners.

Steam continues to move from strength to strength, buoyed in no small part by the success of the still Early-Access Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, which has in its turn broken all manner of records. In large part due to its success, and the vibrance of PC gaming as a whole, Steam managed to break through the incredible barrier of having 17 million players online all at once.

To be clear, 17 million concurrent users doesn’t refer to how many total Steam accounts there are- just how many were online all at once. Which means, more people were playing Steam at the same time than ever bought a Wii U. Or PS Vita. Or Dreamcast. Or Sega Saturn.

It’s incredible, really, although in this case, the Steam Autumn Sale may have had some role to play in the numbers, too. Still, no downplaying this- now I just hope Valve uses this opportunity to actually respond to some feedback about the storefront going forward.
