Subnautica 2 Screenshots Have Begun Appearing in the First Game

Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment could have an announcement soon regarding early access for the sequel, which begins in 2025.

Unknown Worlds Entertainment is currently busy with Subnautica 2, its sequel to the critically acclaimed survival sandbox series. Early access is planned for 2025, with more details coming this year, but an announcement may be coming soon.

A player on the Subnautica subreddit first noted a new Time Capsule image, with the hashtag “PEEPERSRULE” appearing in the first game. A moderator would clarify that the screenshot is from the upcoming sequel. Since then, several new images have surfaced, showcasing various flora and fauna in the game.

Unknown Worlds hasn’t commented on this beyond animator Scott MacDonald stating, “Huh. Funny that,” on Discord. However, it could be a prelude to an upcoming announcement. Perhaps a trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live next month, followed by early access details? Time will tell.

Though not officially confirmed, Subnautica 2 is very likely coming to PC. Despite publisher Krafton calling it games-as-a-service title, it won’t feature any season passes or battle passes, with post-launch updates to be free. Multiplayer is also confirmed for up to four players but is optional.
