Unknown Worlds’ Subnautica 2 is out now in early access for Xbox Series X/S and PC, including via Game Pass, and is off to a strong start. The developer confirmed over one million copies sold, that too before launch.
The numbers are fairly encouraging on Steam as well. In terms of concurrent players, it peaked at 467,582, and you can expect that to rise over the weekend as word of mouth begins to spread. It currently has 1,296 user reviews with 86 percent recommending the title, resulting in a “Very Positive” rating.
However, the negative reviews are worth noting, especially those who complained about a license agreement that’s apparently in breach of the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, in Europe. It seemingly states that any created content belongs to Unknown Worlds; that the player renounces their right to class-action suits; and that data collection apparently includes sharing and selling.
Suffice to say that this hasn’t gone down well with some players, especially since you can’t opt out of data collection or play the game without agreeing to the license. Time will tell how the developer responds to this. Otherwise, if you needed any other incentive to wait, there’s no field-of-view slider, and the default setting is apparently quite low. There are also reports of crashing on 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs, so look for a patch to address these in the coming days.
