It’s taken about five years of planning and development, but Konami’s Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is finally available. As you probably guessed by the name, it’s a compilation of the first two titles in the famed RPG series, remastered with improved visuals. Check out the launch trailer below.
Based on Shi Nai’an’s novel Water Margin, the titles focus on 108 heroes who band together to fight against oppression. The appeal is that they’re all fully fleshed-out playable characters with their own roles and backstories. In terms of improvements, the remasters feature enhanced lighting, reflections, and redrawn portraits courtesy of Suikoden 1 character designer Junko Kawano.
While there are no difficulty changes, you can look forward to autosaves, the option to fast-forward through combat and an overhauled UI. Check out our review for more details.
Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
