Super Mario Maker 2 Retains Top Spot In Japanese Charts, God Eater 3 Debuts In 2nd Place

A pretty uneventful week, all around.

Famitsu has released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from Japan for the week ending July 14, and not much has changed this week. Super Mario Maker 2 was on top of the charts last week (where it’s been since it launched), and that’s where it is this week as well, selling over 54,000 copies.

God Eater 3 recently released in Japan for the Nintendo Switch, and it has debuted strongly (especially for a port), occupying second place with over 20,000 copies sold. Surprisingly though, Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers, the excellent expansion of the popular MMO that debuted in second place last week, has completely fallen out of the top 10.

The rest of the top 10 doesn’t see a lot of changes. The usual suspects like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Minecraft’s Switch version, and Pokemon Let’s Go are all still in there, while other recent top performers like Yo-kai Watch 4, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball, and Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle figure into the top 10 as well (with the latter occupying two spots, one each for the PS4 and Switch versions).

On the hardware side of things, the Switch is still the highest selling console, as it usually is, but it sees a drop in sales, having moved over 55,000 units across the week as opposed to last week’s 75k+. Meanwhile, the PS4 sold nearly 11,000 units.
