Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lived up to its name in more ways than one. It became the ultimate crossover game, not just for Nintendo franchises, but for classic gaming in general. The game saw five DLC characters added to the already absurd roster, and six more will come in due time. Unfortunately, like a lot of the industry, it has also been impacted by the current coronavirus pandemic.

Writing in his latest column for Famitsu, Director Masahiro Sakurai said that a presentation to Nintendo about the upcoming DLC development has been pushed back. While that doesn’t necessarily mean that the reveal of said DLC will also be pushed back, the development has likely seen delay on some level. So don’t expect to see the release of a new character anytime soon, even if we end up getting a reveal in the next few weeks (thanks to VGC for transcribing and translation work).

The coronavirus has had a huge impact, such as the cancellation of E3 and developers working remotely from home, so it’s likely there will be a lot of behind the scenes situations like this one. It’s unfortunate, but also necessary in these trying times. And you can’t say the currently available Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is lacking in content as is, so you’ll have to make due with what’s there for the time being.
