Switch Hardware and Software Rules the Roost in Japan in Newest Media Create Report

No new releases, so a less-exciting-than-expected set of numbers.

Nintendo Switch

The newest Media Create report, for video game hardware and software sales in Japan last week, is now available. And, as has been the case for a while now, Nintendo Switch ended up topping the hardware charts, with 54,647 units sold. The PS4 came in second place, with its strongest showing in weeks, having sold 25,843 units, while the 3DS limped to a weak third place, with 11,896 units sold.

On the software side, in spite of it being Obon week last week, no new game charted- mostly because no new game actually released last week. So the top 13 on the software chart was all Nintendo, with the Switch version of Minecraft, as well as Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild exhibiting extraordinary legs. On the other hand, Yakuza 3 HD and Octopath Traveler aren’t holding up as well (though with the latter, well, the stock issues with it – which have basically become a meme by now – are obviously a factor).

You can see the full charts for yourself below.
