"The games and experiences that these four studios have planned are incredible," teases the publisher and each maintains creative autonomy.

Following its floating on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM market and a reported investment by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Devolver Digital has confirmed the acquisition of three key studios. These are Dodge Roll, known for the Enter the Gungeon series; Nerial of Reigns fame (who’s also working on Card Shark); and Firefly Studios which develops the Stronghold series.

In a new post announcing its publicly traded nature, the publisher said, “Those developers and our team looked ahead and saw that we’d be working together forever so we lovingly acquired them, mostly so they would hang out with us more. The games and experiences that these four studios have planned are incredible and each maintain their full creative autonomy afforded to them throughout our relationship.” Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Enter the Gungeon 2 from Dodge Roll any time soon (and Devolver has asked them “more than once”).

Valued at $950 million currently, Devolver Digital has quite a lot in the pipeline. There’s Flying Wild Hog’s Shadow Warrior 3 and Trek to Yomi, WolfEye Studios’ Weird West, Galvanic Games’ Wizard with a Gun and Massive Monster’s Cult of the Lamb coming next year. It also recently published Daniel Mullins’ Inscryption for PC. Stay tuned for more announcements – and potentially more shocking Devolver Directs – in the coming year.

Just when you thought you were out, these games pulled you back in with new modes, extra content and "true" endings to unlock.

With how long some games can be, it can be a relief when they’re finally over. Sometimes though, you don’t want the fun to end and wish there was more. A number of games leverage that in various ways, opening up some new optional content, opening up the “real game” (so to speak) or some mixture of the two when you thought you finished the story. Let’s take a look at 15 such titles here. Story spoilers follow for some games so be warned.

God of War (2018)

Much of the God of War journey involves, well, a literal journey to honor Kratos’ wife Faye (with a dash of smacking down Baldr). But even after making the trek back home and seeing the “dream” with Thor, there’s still plenty to wrap up. Outside of collectibles, you could kill of the Valkyries including Sigrun, the toughest boss in the entire game; partake in the Impossible Trials of Muspelheim and master Niflheim’s poisonous arena; free all of the dragons; and reassemble the Gauntlet of Ages to wield Infinity Stone-esque power. New Game Plus adds even more content with new armor, talismans, enchantments and stronger versions of current armor.

Earlier in the year, Sony announced they would be bringing back their Play at Home initiative. This month saw the company giving out 2016’s Ratchet and Clank, the latest game in the franchise ahead of the new Rift Apart releasing this June. But they are clearly just getting started, as for the remainder of this month and into April they will give out a whooping 10 titles free of charge.

As announced on the official Twitter and blog, there will be a total of 10 different titles given out over the course of the next month. It’s a mix of big titles, indies and VR games. Probably the big headliner of the bunch is Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition next month. After that the next high profile game is the VR hit Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. Then you have Rez Infinite, Abzu, Enter the Gungeon, Subnautica, and The Witness. Then the next group is PS VR exclusive titles Moss, Paper Beast and Thumper.

Horizon: Zero Dawn will be available starting April 19th up until May 14th. All the other titles will be free starting March 25th and running to April 22nd. They will redeemable free of charge, even without PS Plus, on PS5 and PS4. Those marked with VR below will require a PS VR to play.

Some areas are a walk in the park. These 15 are anything but.

Every video game has its share of challenging levels but some can be more frustrating than others. Then there are those that take it up a notch, thoroughly testing your will survive and thrive in the harshest circumstances. Let’s take a look at 15 of those locations here.

Celeste: Farewell – Sub-Chapter 9

Anyone who’s played the B-Side and C-Side levels of Celeste knows the amount of precision platforming required. Farewell, the post-launch ninth chapter, is no exception, providing numerous new objects and challenges over the span of its numerous sub-chapters. It all culminates in the ninth sub-chapter – a single continuous screen of parachutes, spikes, feathers, springs and much more, with one mistake requiring a do-over.

You'll need all the preparation in the world to stand a chance against these bosses.

As we’ve noted many times before, boss fights are a delicate balancing act. Challenges are great but you don’t want to completely and utterly destroy, frustrate or traumatize the player without good reason. But what if you do? Why, just make it a super boss – an optional boss with completely overpowered mechanics to test a player’s true mettle. Let’s take a 15 more such bosses here.

Sephiroth – Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2

Kingdom Hearts players had a taste of Sephiroth’s power in the first game when fighting him in the Final Mix version of the game. Surprise, surprise, he’s even more difficult in Kingdom Hearts 2. On top of multiple health bars, he moves incredibly fast and can kill Sora with the first combo alone. He can also throw homing orbs, draw Sora into a fire wall and unleash Heartless Angel which, if successful, drops Sora to 1 HP. Sephiroth’s attack speed and damage also increase as he loses health, making for even more fun times.

Dodge Roll Games’ Exit the Gungeon, a side-scrolling platforming title set in the Gungeon-verse, is currently only playable on Apple Arcade. However, the developer has confirmed that it will be coming to consoles and PC early this year. Will that be in this quarter? Within the next month? It’s hard to say.

The developer also revealed that roguelite shooter Enter the Gungeon has passed three million copies sold. The title has received tons of critical acclaim since launch and a number of free content expansions. A Farewell to Arms was the last major content update, bringing new guns, synergies, two new Gungeoneers and much more to the experience.

While Dodge Roll Games has since moved on from Enter the Gungeon, it has a new title in the works that promise to be a “more ambitious idea.” It was reported to be in the early stages of development back in November 2018 but perhaps we’ll hear more of it in the coming months. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

The Enter the Gungeon spin-off features climbing, bullet hell mechanics and dodge rolling.

Apple recently announced a release date and price for Apple Arcade along with a bevy of games (including Capcom’s Shinsekai: Into the Depths, which sadly isn’t Deep Down). However, during the announcement, a new game in the Gungeonverse was spotted. Exit the Gungeon is a spin-off of Dodge Roll’s Enter the Gungeon and is co-developed by Singlecore Games. Check out the trailer below.

Unlike its predecessor, which is a dungeon crawler, Exit the Gungeon is more of a side-scroller. Bullet mechanics and dodge rolling are still a thing though. With the Gungeon collapsing, it’s up to you to escape, choosing the classic Gungeoneers, using a transforming weapon and meeting some familiar faces.

Overall, the enemies, bosses and mechanics will look very familiar to Enter the Gungeon fans. Adjusting to the side-scrolling perspective may take some time though. Exit the Gungeon is “coming soon” to Apple Arcade. Other platforms have yet to be confirmed but stay tuned for more details.

Microsoft has revealed the latest titles coming to Xbox Game Pass this month, focusing on the PC side of things. Though it launched with roughly 100 titles, September’s entries further diversify the line-up. It kicks off with The Coalition’s Gears 5, which should currently be available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, and for everyone else on September 10th.

There’s Creature in the Well, a dungeon crawler meets pinball title that’s also out today. Bad North: Jotuun Edition is coming up and sees players engaging in strategic battles against Viking foes. Enter the Gungeon, which was available free on the Epic Games Store several weeks ago, is also coming, as is Motion Twin’s awesome side-scrolling rogue-lite Dead Cells.

If that weren’t enough, you get another roguelike with Gonner, which is a 2D side-scrolling shooter. Flying Wild Hog’s Shadow Warrior 2 rounds out this month’s releases, offering first person, hack and slash looting with over-the-top humour.

Don't let their looks fool you - these weapons pack a surprising punch.

Iconic weapons like the BFG 9000, Master Sword and so on and so forth dot the gaming landscape. Each weapon is powerful and their looks reinforce that. There are some weapons out there that might not be as threatening – they look and sound ridiculous in comparison – but they can be pretty lethal in their own right. Let’s take a look at 15 such weapons here.

Blitzkrieg – Dead Rising 2

Created by combining an Electric Chair – itself made from a battery and wheelchair – with an assault rifle or LMG, the Blitzkrieg isn’t very mobile. It’s also slightly tough to craft. But lest you think this is just a slow wheelchair with guns, the Blitzkrieg has some of the best stopping power in the game. Zombies can be downed in one or two shots and there’s 250 uses in total, allowing for a pretty big spree of murder.
