Those playing on the base versions of last-gen consoles will have to join co-op sessions hosted by someone playing on more powerful hardware.

Dead Island 2’s launch is right around the corner, and the zombie-slaying action RPG will, of course, players to experience the game solo from start to finish if they choose. That said, co-op will also be an option- though developer Dambuster Studios has revealed that upon the game’s launch, its co-op features will face some limitations.

The developer says that due to the game’s “graphic requirements”, if you’re looking to host a co-op session, you need to be playing either on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, or on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. While those playing on base PS4 and Xbox One models will be able to join co-op sessions hosted by other players, creating your own session won’t be an option at launch.

“We’re working on giving the option to host on all consoles in the future,” Dambuster Studios said.

The developer has also reiterated that while the game does support cross-gen co-op, cross-play is not supported- so PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players cannot co-op with each other.

Dead Island 2 is out on April 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will run at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. You can check out its PC requirements through here.

PS4, Xbox One S, and Xbox One versions run at 1920x1080 resolution, while Xbox One X and PS4 Pro can run the action RPG in 4K.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise finally arrives next week for PlayStation and Xbox platforms, having been exclusive to Nintendo Switch and PC. It runs at 4K/60 FPS on Xbox Series X and PS5 and even has a 120 FPS mode. But what about other platforms?

Fortunately, Capcom has revealed the same. PS4, Xbox One and Xbox One S versions at 1920×1080 resolution. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X run at 3840×2160 resolution, the same as current-gen consoles. The Xbox Series S version runs at 2560×1440 resolution. For those experiencing it via PC Game Pass, there are graphics settings.

You’ll notice that except for Xbox Series X and PS5, the frame rate hasn’t been mentioned for any other platform. Capcom states, “Frame is variable depending on the gameplay situation.” Based on the hardware, you can prioritize frame rate or image quality, though it’s unknown whether Xbox One, PS4, Xbox One S and Xbox Series S get those options.

Monster Hunter Rise launches on January 20th for PlayStation and Xbox.
The Nintendo Switch version runs at 720p/30 FPS in docked and handheld modes. The PC version supports up to 120 FPS and has various options.

Square Enix has released a new trailer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, touting how the remaster is more than a remaster. It highlights significant differences, from HD visuals to brand-new cinematics for Summons and the updated combat system. Check it out below.

More importantly, the frame rate and resolution for the title on each platform have been revealed. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it runs at 4K/60 FPS, while on Xbox Series S, it runs at 1080p/60 FPS. The latter requires an update to patch ver. 1.0.1 on launch day, else it will run at 1080p/30 FPS. Meanwhile, the PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox One S versions run at 1080p/30 FPS. The Xbox One X and PS4 Pro versions run at 4K/30 FPS.

Nintendo Switch players can look forward to a 720p resolution and 30 FPS in handheld and docked modes. The PC version’s resolution is display-based but supports 30 FPS, 60 FPS, and 120 FPS. There are also options for V-Sync, Texture Quality, Shadows Quality, Anti-Aliasing, Ambient Occlusion, and Fullscreen.

All listed frame rates are variable, so we’ll need to wait and see which version performs the best. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is out on December 13th worldwide.

Frame rate and resolution targets have also been revealed for the game's PS4, Xbox One, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One X versions.

Evil West is launching soon, and as tends to be the case with a large number of other releases, it is going to be a cross-gen title. Of course, with any new game that’s being developed for so many different platforms, there are always questions of how it will be optimized on each of them. To that end, ahead of its launch, publisher Focus Entertainment has revealed what frame rate and resolution Evil West will target on all the PlayStation and Xbox platforms it is launching for.

Most notable, of course, are the PS5 and Xbox Series X, both of which will see the game featuring two graphical modes- quality mode will run at 4K/30 FPS, while performance mode will target 1080p/60 FPS. The Xbox Series S, meanwhile, will have just one mode running at 1080p/30 FPS- which, incidentally, is what the game will target on the base PS4 and Xbox One as well.

Meanwhile, on Xbox One X, Evil West will target 4K/30 FPS. On the PS4 Pro, however, it will run at 1080/30 FPS, same as the base PS4- though Focus Entertainment says that between the two, the PS4 Pro version will feature “improved graphical quality”.

The publisher has also revealed the minimum and recommended requirements for the game’s PC version. Read more on that through here.

Evil West launches on November 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Mediatonic has revealed what frame rates and resolutions Fall Guys will target on Xbox One, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X/S.

It’s been a big day for Fall Guys, with Mediatonic making a number of major new announcements related to the game. The battle royale title will be going free-to-play in June, leaving Steam as it launches on the Epic Games Store, and also launch at last for the Nintendo Switch and all Xbox platforms. During their recent announcement team, Mediatonic also revealed what frame rates and resolutions the game will target on all Xbox consoles.

On Xbox Series X, the game will target 60 FPS and 4K, which is about what many would have expected. On the Xbox Series S, it will maintain a 60 FPS frame rate, but its target resolution will fall to 1440p. Meanwhile, those on previous gen hardware will, of course, get lower numbers. On the base Xbox One, the game will run at 1080p and 30 FPS, while on the Xbox One X, it will run at 1080p and 60 FPS.

Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that Game Pass subscribers will also get in-game bonuses in Fall Guys each month, with the first three months bringing a new free costume each month.

Fall Guys’ Switch and Xbox launch, its free-to-play transition, and its departure from Steam are all scheduled for June 21.

Dying Light 1 will now offer three graphics modes on the Xbox Series X, though there's no 60 FPS option on the Xbox Series S.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is still not even a couple months old, and is obviously going to be Techland’s primary focal point in terms of support and new content for several years to come. Even so, the developer is still not quite done with the original game. Dying Light 1’s next-gen patch was released for PS5 earlier this month, and now, it’s arrived for Xbox as well.

Over on Twitter, Techland has provided details on how this upgrade affects the game not only on Xbox Series X/S, but also on Xbox One X. For starters, on Xbox Series X, the game will have three modes- Performance mode for 1080p/60 FPS, Balanced mode for 1440p/60 FPS, and Quality mode for 4K/30 FPS.

On Xbox Series S and Xbox One X, however, there are only two modes, and neither of them sees the game running at 60 FFS. Performance mode offers 1080p/30 FPS, while Quality mode offers 1440p/30 FPS.

Dying Light 2 also got 60 FPS support a little belatedly on the Xbox Series S, so hopefully that’ll be the case here, too.

Senior director of Xbox console product marketing Cindy Walker said this was done at the end of 2020 to "focus on production of Xbox Series X/S"

Before the release of the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft had discontinued production of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. The company was looking to “ramp into the future” with its new consoles but continued to manufacture the Xbox One S until 2020 end. It’s now confirmed to The Verge that production on all Xbox One consoles had ended at the same time.

“To focus on production of Xbox Series X / S, we stopped production for all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020,” said senior director of Xbox console product marketing Cindy Walker. While the move made sense at the time, it’s a somewhat different climate today. Shortages and excessive demand have reportedly led to Sony continuing to manufacture PS4 consoles after partners were previously told to stop assembly post-2021 (though it officially denies the same).

It doesn’t appear that supply is a big issue for Microsoft though. Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently said that, “Supply is actually as big as it’s ever been. It’s that demand is exceeding the supply for all of us. At this point, we’ve sold more of this generation of Xboxes, which is Xbox Series X and S, than we had any previous version of Xboxes.”

Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad estimated that over 12 million consoles have been shipped worldwide till date so focusing on the Xbox Series X/S seems to be the correct play. Time will tell how the coming year pans out so stay tuned.

Bandai Namco has released full details on what to expect from Elden Ring's performance and resolution across all platforms.

Elden Ring is getting closer to its launch, and Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are ratcheting up the marketing for the game. We’ve learned a great deal about the upcoming open world action RPG in recent days, while recent GameStop listings also suggested that on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the game would feature support for 4K and 60 FPS across separate graphics modes. That has now been confirmed.

Bandai Namco has revealed the full details on what to expect from the game’s target resolutions and frame rates across all the platforms it will launch for. The highlight here, of course, is that Elden Ring will support ray-tracing on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, while there is also support for 60 FPS and 4K on all new-gen consoles. You can find the full details below.

Elden Ring launches on February 25 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A closed network test of the game will kick off for a limited number of players on November 12, and will feature five playable classes. Read more on that through here.

Maintaining a 4K resolution, the beta runs at 100 FPS+ on the Xbox Series X, while maintaining 120 FPS on the Xbox Series S at 1080p.

The first technical preview for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer component has gone live, giving players a taste for what to expect when the shooter launches this Fall, and reception for it so far has been quite positive. Even on a visuals and performance front, things are looking quite impressive already. YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits recently uploaded an analysis of the game’s technical preview (which you can view below), and numbers for its frame rate and resolution on multiple consoles have emerged.

On the Xbox Series X, the Halo Infinite beta runs at 4K resolution, and though it targets 120 FPS, the performance generally hovers in the 100-110 FPS range, while sometimes dropping into the 90s as well. Meanwhile, on an Xbox Series S, the resolution drops down to 1080p, which means it’s able to stick to 120 FPS much better, with hardly any drops in performance to speak of.

On a base Xbox One, the frame rate is consistently maintained at 30 FPS at 1080p, while on an Xbox One X, the resolution is cranked up to 4K, with the frame rate still being maintained at 30 FPS, with very few drops here and there. Other than the base Xbox One, all consoles are supposed to receive more modes favouring performance in the future, which should be interesting to analyze.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X/S have better load times, while shadows, textures, and ambient occlusion are also improved on the two and on Xbox One X as compared to the Xbox One. Clearly, results are already impressive, and this is just the very first technical preview (with more elaborate betas yet to come in the future), which means things may very well improve further in the future.

Halo Infinite launches for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC this Holiday, possibly in November.
