Developer Surgent Studios has announced its new side-scrolling action game at The Game Awards 2023, focusing quite a bit on the developer’s African heritage for its themes. Titled Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, the trailer shows off quite a bit of the game’s hack-and-slash gameplay, as well as traversal abilities. Check out the trailer below.

Interestingly, the announcement was leaked earlier this month thanks to prominent leaker billbil-kun. Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is being published by EA under its EA Originals label, which is prominently for newer projects by smaller studios.

Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is a side-scrolling platformer that seems to have elements of the metroidvania genre. It features a magic system that has the player alternate between blue and orange colours as they make use of their different abilities to not only fight enemies, but to also take on the platforming challenges in the game.

Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is coming tO PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. The game is slated for an April 23 release, and pre-orders are set to go live after the end of The Game Awards 2023.
