Bandai Namco has released a steady string of new trailers for Tekken 8 in recent weeks, with several characters having been confirmed for its launch roster. Meanwhile, game director and series producer Katsuhiro Harada has also recently been fielding questions from fans on Twitter to reveal more details on the upcoming fighter.
Two crucial details that fans will be happy to hear about are that Tekken 8 will use rollback netcode, and that it will feature full cross-platform multiplayer at launch. Harada says the reason these features weren’t previously announced by Bandai Namco in an official capacity is that they’re considered the norm in fighters in today’s day and age, so making big announcements for them didn’t make sense.
Harada has also said that Tekken 8 will launch with “a lot more” characters than Capcom. Assuming he’s referring to the upcoming Street Fighter 6, that would mean Tekken 8 will have more than 18 characters at launch, which is how many Capcom’s upcoming fighter is confirmed to be launching with.
Tekken 8 is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It doesn’t yet have a release date, but Bandai Namco has said it’ll release sometime before April next year.
