Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol recently went gold but is still several weeks out from release. In the meantime, a new docu-series “Mastering Horror” has debuted, which goes into various aspects of the survival horror’s brand of, well, horror. Check it out below.

Episode 1 focuses on brutality and its use to create shocking moments. Director Glen Schofield talks about watching two particular horror films and how their depictions of raw violence stuck with him. In that sense, actor Josh Duhamel (who plays protagonist Jacob Lee) notes that the team doesn’t pull any punches in The Callisto Protocol.

It’s an interesting watch, especially when it comes to the design of the Biophages and how having an element of humanity makes them that much more terrifying. The Callisto Protocol releases on December 2nd for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Interestingly, Schofield is already thinking about a sequel. Learn more about that here.
