The Crew Releasing for Xbox 360 (And Not PS3) Due to Simpler Architecture

The PS3's difficult development architecture comes back to haunt it.

Ubisoft had its fair share of surprises at this year’s Gamescom, including the news that Ivory Tower’s The Crew would be releasing on the Xbox 360. The open world online racer had only been confirmed for PS4, Xbox One and PC prior to this news.

However, The Crew won’t be releasing on PS3. Why? Because it’s just easier to develop on the Xbox 360.

This was according to a Ubisoft representative who spoke to Kotaku. “The Crew was originally built for the new generation of consoles, so when we made the decision to port it to the previous generation, we decided to focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen’s technical infrastructure, which is the Xbox 360.”

Considering the PS3’s notoriously difficult architecture, it’s understandable. However, this never stopped Ubisoft from cross-generational releases before. Could it really have been that big of a headache? Regardless, you can look forward to The Crew this November for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PC.
