The Division 2 Not Planned For Any New Platforms, Says Developer

Allegedly, there's no thoughts of porting the game over to next-gen consoles.

The Division 2 - Warlords of New York_02

The Division 2 is in for some big changes, as the newest expansion, Warlords of New York, was recently revealed. You can read all about that through here. The Division 2 is one of Ubisoft’s many live service games that’s been designed to continue on indefinitely (or at least until the next main instalment comes out). Which makes it surprising that it seems there’s no plans to port the game to the upcoming next generation consoles.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Associate Creative Director Yannick Banchereau pretty bluntly said there were no plans for bringing the action game to more platforms. He says they are focused now on current systems and making those versions the best they can be.

“We are not looking at porting it to new platforms,” he said. “What I can tell you is that we are not making a specific version for those for those consoles, we are very much focused on just working on what we have now and making that as good as possible.”

While it is somewhat surprising, the next consoles from Sony and Microsoft will be more backward compatible friendly than current ones, so porting the game over may not even be needed. It could also be that Ubisoft quite simply isn’t ready to announce anything just yet. We’ll have to wait and see.
