While we don’t yet know whether or not there is actually going to be an Elder Scrolls 6 or a Skyrim 2, we do know that if Bethesda wants to roll out yet another game in this particular series there are some things the company is going to have to do. No matter if the game has a robust multiplayer mode, or some brand new boss battles, one thing we absolutely know is the company needs to build the game using a brand new engine.

Some people might think the creation engine that was used in the original Skyrim and tweaked a bit for the impending release of Fallout 4. The problem with using the engine is that it’s actually pretty old. Even if it’s gotten some tweaks and updates over the years, it’s not one that is going to blow people away. The company is going to need to set aside the Creation Engine, which was indeed cutting edge back when Skyrim was first launched.

The company now needs to come up with a new engine that can make Skyrim 2 or Elder Scrolls 6 cutting edge as well. Bethesda is also going to have to cut the Gamebryo code cord if it really wants to make the new game as good as it can be. That might seem like a tall order, but considering the company hasn’t even announced this new game, it apparently has the time.
