The movies really, really do not do the Phoenix any justice, because if you read the comics, she is a force to be reckoned with. The Phoenix Force is a part of Jean Grey and has a very vast array of powers that can destroy multiple opponents within seconds. Phoenix discovers that she can telepathically enhance the powers of other mutants. The  Phoenix Force avatar, can create ‘cosmic’ flames, even in seemingly impossible situations such as the vacuum of space or underwater
