The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is The Game Awards Game of the Year

Zelda swept the evening with a total of three awards.

Really, who didn’t see this coming? Nintendo’s superlative masterpiece from earlier this year, the paradigm shifting Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild swept The Game Awards tonight, winning Game of the Year 2017 (and marking the first GotY win Nintendo has had at the awards show, ever). Zelda also ended up winning Best Director and Best Action Adventure game of the year.

That apart, Persona 5 was best RPG of the year, Super Mario Odyssey was best Family game of the year, Injustice 2 won best fighting game, Nier Automata won best soundtrack, Cuphead won best indie game and best art, Hellblade won best voice acting and best game for impact, and What Remains of Edith Finch won best story.

Curiously enough, Horizon: Zero Dawn managed to win no award tonight whatsoever, in spite of being nominated for a lot of categories. On the other hand, Sony scored a win, because The Last of Us Part 2 is the most anticipated game of 2018 for now.
