The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Is the Fastest Selling 2019 Switch Game in UK

It's outpaced Super Mario Maker 2's launch sales.

We recently got the latest weekly data for boxed video game sales in the UK, which revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening topped the charts on its debut, becoming developers Grezzo’s biggest Zelda launch in the UK to date, beating Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D. GamesIndustry have since added new information to their report, which paints an even more impressive picture of the solid launch enjoyed by the game in the UK.

Link’s Awakening is, as it turns out, the fastest selling Nintendo Switch game of 2019 in the UK, beating Super Mario Maker 2, which held that title until now. Mario Maker 2 sold roughly 37,000 units in the UK at launch, which means that the newest Zelda remake has, at the very least, sold more than that. This is also only the third time ever that a Zelda game has topped UK charts, with the first one being Ocarina of Time in 1998, which was followed by The Wind Waker repeating that feat in 2003.

Recently, we also received reports that Link’s Awakening has become Nintendo’s best launch in 2019, and this certainly goes in line with that. With Pokemon Sword and Shield releasing in November, that will probably be changing soon, but it’s an impressive accomplishment nonetheless.

Our review of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be going live soon, so stay tuned.
