Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is finally available after years of development, and follows up on the universally acclaimed Breath of the Wild. It’s already a critical success, but game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi isn’t resting on his laurels.

After an interview with The New York Times (mild story spoilers, so beware), he admitted to author Zachary Small that he “already has plans for the next Zelda game.” Interestingly, he’s yet to inform series producer Eiji Aonuma about the same. With Tears of the Kingdom beginning development in 2017 after Breath of the Wild’s release, this is par for the course.

In the interview, Ganondorf, who returns as the antagonist, was also discussed. Though he has a defined character and dialogue (courtesy of Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer) over Calamity Ganon, Aonuma says, “It’s very possible from here on out that we will be able to see further character development and changes to his personality as the series continues. Ganondorf is an ingredient that we use to supplement gameplay.”

Considering his portrayal in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, where he battles Hyrule due to his people suffering in the Gerudo Desert, there is potential to add shades to his character. However, for now (and perhaps many times after), he’ll remain the villain that Link and Zelda must stop.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is out now for Nintendo Switch. Head here for extensive gameplay of the opening hour.
