Ahead of The Lord of the Ring: Gollum’s launch in a little over a month, publisher Nacon and developer Daedalic Entertainment recently unveiled the game’s Precious Edition, a $70 special edition that will pack in several additional bonuses on top of the game. Curiously enough, one of these bonuses was for Sindarin VO, adding an Elvish voice over option, and the fact that that is paywalled content caused a bit of a stir.

Daedalic Entertainment has, however, provided some additional details for exactly what the DLC will entail. In a statement to Push Square, the developer confirmed that characters in the main story will still speak in Elvish if and when the situation calls for it, even for players who don’t own the DLC. The DLC is instead only meant to add greater flavour and authenticity to some background characters and NPCs.

“Sindarin VO expansion adds additional Sindarin lines to some of the characters in the background,,” Daedalic Entertainment said. “While traversing through Mirkwood and other parts of middleearth Gollum will be able to listen to various dialogues between Elves. These dialogues add to the atmosphere and worldbuilding.”

The developer added: “Daedalic went the extra mile here and hired professional voice actors, who were trained in Sindarin by our lore experts. It is a DLC for the real Tolkien devotees who want to immerse themselves even more into the world of Middle-Earth.”

The Lords of the Rings: Gollum is set to launch on May 25 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while a Nintendo Switch version is also in development.
