There was a worry among people that the PS4 would block used games, but Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that it won’t do it. The company had earlier created a patent for blocking used game sales and it looks like with this new revelation Gamestop should be pretty happy.
Tom Bramwell, EG‘s EIC, asked Shuhei Yoshida whether the PS4 will block used games or not to which he replied: “Yes. That’s the general expectation by consumers. They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that’s my expectation.”
“So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?”
That’s fine, Sony. Thank you. Playing used games and selling them is the right of every consumer and it’s great that the company acknowledges this. If Microsoft will do the opposite and block used games then the market may not respond properly to the console.
Eurogamer also reports that the patent that was found last year has nothing to do with the PS4.
This is one of the best things to come out of the PS4 conference, and you can check out our entire coverage here.
