The sequel won't lack for side content.

The Surge 2

The Surge 2 is almost here, and the hope for Deck13 is to improve on the solid base they established with the first game. The sci-fi based “Souls-like” takes the genre away from the dark fantasy of castles and dragons and all that, replacing it with city ruins, cyborgs, and drones. One aspect of the original that many were critical of was its lack of side content. It was a very short game in the end. Seems the developers don’t want to repeat that this time around, as the game will have significantly more side material this go around.

In a Reddit AMA, the developers fielded questions about various aspects of the title. When asked about the story and side content, Deck13 said they more than quadrupled the amount of side quests, and that The Surge 2 would have more story overall with side characters and NPCs

“There’s a lot more story in The Surge 2 compared to the first game. We have quadrupled the amount of sidequest; there are dozens of NPCs in the world, and almost everyone has his/her own little story to tell. The player character himself will be an avatar for the player, so the style of storytelling has changed a bit towards the more RPG-like.”

The Surge 2 releases tomorrow for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Take a look at the game’s wild launch trailer to get you in the proper mood.
