the surge 2

Deck13’s The Surge 2 has quite a few bosses to contend with. It might not on the level of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice but there are still plenty of challenging bosses. Let’s break down how to beat all of them.

Violent Vic

Your first boss fight is Violent Vic and it’s fairly simple: Aim for the head. You’ll need to dodge his combos and can’t really hit him anywhere else due to all the armor. But target his head, whittle him down and you’re good to go.

Warden Garcia

Found in the JCPD Lobby of the Detention Center, Warden Garcia will unleash a three hit combo to start off. Attack once the combo finishes. His drone will eventually start targeting you – hide behind walls or keep moving to avoid getting shot. Garcia will also leap at you or throw Molotov Cocktails from a distance. Dodge these by jumping to the side.

Little Johnny

The objective of this fight is to destroy the boss’s cooling tanks. You’ll find two under the cockpit and one on each leg for a sum total of five. When going for the legs, avoid it attacks and take out the armor while destroying the cooling tanks. When trying to destroy the cooling tanks beneath the cockpit, avoid its smash attacks (especially since they can one-shot you). Play it safe and Little Johnny will be no more.

Delver

The first phase of this fight is simple – dodge the Delver’s strikes and attack him. His second phase is where things get weird. The Delver transforms and will move quickly between the walls while firing nanites. Once the Delver is on the ground, attack it. Kill the nanites on the ground to prevent them from healing it.

Phase 3 sees the Delver slowly propelling itself at you. It’s easy enough to dodge and counter-attack but keep in mind that this attack can one-shot kill you if it connects.

Captain Cervantes

Captain Cervantes is capable of turning invisible and will one-hit kill you while in this state. Dodging his attacks and staying on the move is paramount. Once he’s visible, attack during his wind-up animations. You can also get a few hits in before he turns invisible.

Brother Eli

There’s a charge time to Brother Eli’s attacks – use that as an indicator for when to dodge and land a few hits on him when the attack finishes. He can dish out some serious damage and the surrounding arena is small so be careful. When Eli has lost enough health, two minions will spawn in – kill them as quickly as possibly and then rinse, repeat.

H.A.R.O.L.D

H.A.R.O.L.D can be quite the bane with its nanite attacks and holographic copies which can lunge and electrocute you. The copies are easy enough to dodge, thankfully. After H.A.R.O.L.D pounds the ground, attack during that window. Dodge and be mindful of the nanites and you should be fine.

Major General Ezra Shields

Ezra Shields has a mech called the Metal Armor in the first phase so attack its leg to start. While you’re behind it, the mech can’t kick you so use that to your advantage. Dash around in circles once it starts throwing fire and move back when the flamethrower is charging. Once the flames dissipate, get a few hits in.

After the armor has been stripped on a particular limb, attack it. Repeat this process until the mech is defeated. You’ll then fight Ezra Shields, head to head. While this duel is straightforward, Metal Armor will still attack with beams and the flamethrower so you need be careful. Target and destroy the flamethrower on the mech if it becomes too much of a problem.

Delver Echo Alpha

The fight will start much like the second phase of Delver as it stomps, fires nanites and jumps around. Kill the nanites quickly to prevent the boss from recovering health. Dodge its leaps and attack when there’s an opening to kill it.

Brother Eli Revived

Brother Eli is back but his moves aren’t all that different. You’ll still be dodging his attacks and attacking when he’s open. However, he also has the Twin Rigged Spark Aspirant to fight alongside him so you’ll need to be careful.

Delver Echo Gamma

You just can’t keep a good Delver down. The Delver Echo Gamma boss is in Downtown Jericho City and will fight much like the third phase of the initial Delver fight. Avoid its slow attacks, which will leave nanites behind it, and destroy the nanites to prevent its recovery. Attack it when its open and it will fall.

PROTEUS Ambush

In the CREO Institute of Technology, four PROTEUS will attack as soon as you enter. Don’t worry – they’re not too tough. Dodge or parry accordingly and take out one PROTEUS at a time to emerge victorious.

Matriarch Celeste

As one of the major antagonists, Matriarch Celeste can dish out quite the damage. She’ll move swiftly around and lunge with her staff – dodge, making sure to avoid the AoE damage and counter-attack. The initial lunge can be parried as can the follow-up attack from above – once she’s stunned, attack.

In the second phase, Celeste will have mechanical arms and electric pathways will also emerge on the sides of the arena. Her attacks may seem frantic but there’s a way out – shoot her in the head with the drone for the stagger. Attack a few times and immediately withdraw. Take care not to attack her from behind, lest the mechanical arms retaliate (if they’re too annoying, try destroying them). Rinse and repeat to eventually defeat Matriarch Celeste.

Goddess Helena

When traveling through AID Command, Goddess Helena will emerge to fight you. Though she possesses shields, her attacks aren’t terribly diverse. Break the shield with a charged vertical attack and lay into her. Though her head beam can be dangerous, it’s also a good opportunity to get some hits in since she moves slower.

In Phase 2, Goddess Helena will expand its repertoire of attacks. Keep close and attack when she uses her beam. Eventually, her shield will be restored, with the fight going back to Phase 1. Repeat the process to defeat her.

Archangel Eli

Directional blocking is tough with Archangel Eli due to the variety of attacks and his timing. He can also throw nanites on the ground and send a wave of them from below at you. Be careful when trying to create distance since Eli can throw his sword at you as well.

The best method to defeat Archangel Eli is to stay close, attack and jump backwards twice when he flies up to use his AoE attack. Make sure to follow-up immediately after the attack is done to avoid his more devastating moves. Dodge his combos constantly, taking care to jump back when necessary and victory should be yours.
