When it comes to the many Dark Souls inspired Action RPGs that’s come about this gen, one that stands up as one of the most interesting and unique is The Surge. Instead of a fantasy based setting, developer Deck13 took the action in a harder sci-fi direction. The first game was a solid, if flawed, experiment, but the sequel is really looking to take it to the next level, and today we got a glimpse at the The Surge 2‘s opening.

Via IGN, we get to see the first 16 minutes of the game, and well, you can see for yourself that it hits the ground running. You get thrown into some barefisted action right out of the gate, though don’t worry, you do get your rig fairly quickly. We see the initial starting area, then go into the more open city setting we’ve seen a few times before. You’ll get a good idea both of the flow of the game, and how the gameplay mechanics work, and yes, you’ll get a good look at a few of the game’s many dismemberment animations.

The Surge 2 releases on September 24th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For a detailed gameplay demonstration of the game, you can also check that out here.
