The Surge 2

Deck13’s The Surge 2 had a new trailer at E3 2019 but there wasn’t a ton of new gameplay footage showcased. The developer is rectifying that with a substantial gameplay walkthrough narrated by game design head Adam Hetenyi. It begins in media res within Jericho City.

The protagonist, who is fully customizable this time around, attempts to enter through a checkpoint. The A.I.D., an organization that’s locked down the city following the outbreak of a techno-virus, isn’t too keen on this idea. When a frontal assault fails, Hetenyi highlights a side path that can be taken instead.

Asynchronous multiplayer is also a thing with graffiti messages that can be seen by other players (much like those seen in Dark Souls). You can also have a drone companion follow you around and use modules like sniper rifles for heavy damage. There’s even a nifty boss fight with an entity that uses nanotech to create large weapons for itself.

The Surge 2 is out on September 24th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
