The Surge’s Newest Trailer Showcases Unique Combat Mechanics

Not just science fiction Dark Souls.

Posted By | On 20th, Apr. 2017

The Surge looks to be an interesting game- the idea of a game using similar mechanics to Dark Souls but in a science fiction setting is inherently appealing, after all. However, if you were tempted to just dismiss it as a lower grade Dark Souls with a science fiction skin, you may be forced to rethink your assessment after watching this video- it makes it clear that there is more to the game mechanically than just aping Dark Souls wholesale, if nothing else.

Among the new unique combat mechanics showcased in this video are horizontal and vertical attacks, which implies full control over the direction of your attacks- notably, this is not actually something that Dark Souls allows for, and it should allow for some interesting possibilities with the game’s combat.

The Surge is due out on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC on May 16. Make sure to check out the new trailer for the game for yourself below.
