Nightdive Studios has made it a habit out of remastering cult classic shooters, and it’s set to release another one of those later this year with an enhanced re-release of developer Computer Artworks’ 2002 cult classic horror shooter The Thing. And though The Thing: Remastered is not, as its name suggests, going to be a full-blown remake, Nightdive says you can still expect it to be a significant enhancement.

In fact, speaking recently with GamesRadar, Nightdive Studios’ business development director Larry Kuperman said that The Thing: Remastered will “fulfill” the “original vision” of Computer Artworks, the studio behind the original game, owing to the fact that it won’t be restricted by the technological constrants that the original was.

“[Computer Artworks was] really, really pretty happy, and justifiably so, with the game that they produced, but they were also aware of limitations, of things that they could not do simply because the technology, the game engine, did not support it,” Kuperman said. “And, without going into too much detail, without providing any spoilers, there are some things that, we were able to fulfill the original vision of the developers. That’s something that’s really important to us.”

Kuperman went on to add that though The Thing: Remastered will feature plenty of gameplay improvements, it will ultimately also play the way you remember the original playing. “It will play the way you remember the original game playing, but that wasn’t the way it actually played,” he said.

The Thing: Remastered is due out sometime later this year for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
