Remember when Andrzej Sapkowski, of The Witcher series fame, sued CD Projekt RED for royalties back in the day? We’ve come a long way since, with the author referring to his current contract as “excellent.”

“Let’s hope it stays that way,” he told GamesRadar at a recent book event for Crossroads of Ravens, a prequel to all the previous novels. While Sapkowski is enjoying his time, he admits that it’s “so rare” for the developer to ask anything, especially compared to the earlier days. It’s worth noting that he’s not currently working on The Witcher 4, though Ciri plays a major part as the protagonist.

While The Witcher games take place after his final novel in the series, The Lady of the Lake, Sapkowski feels it’s “impossible” to write a sequel, which would explain why his upcoming book returns to the past. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, given Geralt’s colorful past.

As for The Witcher 4, it’s currently in development in Unreal Engine 5 and won’t launch until 2027 at the earliest, according to CD Projekt chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz.
