Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2

Oculus Rift has always seemed to be the kind of experience that would be fairly demanding on your PC- after all, to deliver a fully immersive VR experience, you’d need some sizeable grunt powering your hardware, wouldn’t you?

If you have been wondering about exactly what you will need to run Oculus Rift, the recommended specs to get the full experience out of it were revealed today. Do note that these are just the recommended specs, not the minimum required ones- you may still be able to run Oculus even if your machine doesn’t match up to these, although your experience may be less than optimal.

  • Nvidia GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

“The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration,” Oculus said. “Ultimately, we believe this will be fundamental to VR’s success, as developers can optimise and tune their game for a known specification, consistently achieving presence and simplifying development.

“All of the games and applications for the Rift created by Oculus will provide an incredible experience on this system.”

Oculus Rift launches to consumers in Q1 2016. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.
