One of the Xbox 360’s most well received social features was parties; now, just hours away from the worldwide launch of the next generation Xbox One console, Major Nelson has taken to his blog to explain how parties will work on the new console.

It seems to be an enhanced version of the same system that was on the Xbox 360, with some obvious but much welcome improvements, as well as support for the Xbox One’s formidable media and peripheral capabilities (such as multitasking and Snap). It uses the Smart Match feature as well to ensure that you and your party are always matched up with a player of the right skill level (or to ensure that a party is always in the same ballpark of skill level).

Hit the actual blog for the full rundown; just how well it works in the real world is something we will find out once enough players have had some time with it, but in theory, it sounds like Microsoft was able to expand on the original concept quite a bit more.
