THQ drops Itagaki’s Devil’s Third

Posted By | On 16th, May. 2012

Tomonobu Itagaki, the creator of Ninja Gaiden may have to start crying and listening to Aerosmith again, because his over-the-top action game Devil’s Third has been dropped by THQ who cited that the “profitability profile of Devil’s Third no longer meets our internal threshold”.

It means that the game was risky for them considering THQ’s financial condition is not good right now and they need to choose games that will be profitable for them. It has to be noted that another reason given for dropping the game was that the studio’s engine provider went bankrupt, and they couldn’t spend more money on creating a new engine.

Yen’s rise against the US Dollar also did prove favorable to THQ. Valhalla Game Studios founded by Itagaki is based in Japan, hence the Yen concerns. However, THQ did say that they will make sure the game comes out, but at this point, it seems unlikely that they will fund it more.
