Titanfall always looks to be the kind of game that Japan will love- an action game featuring giant mechs? I mean come on, the thing practically sells itself there. And indeed, the original Titanfall was actually one of the few Xbox One games that got some traction in the Land of the Rising Sun. Its success was, of course, limited by it being on Xbox One, which was never a popular console there- but it managed to make a splash, as much as it could, there anyway.
With Titanfall 2 being on PS4, a console actually popular in Japan, too, it looks like Respawn and EA are going all out to appeal to the Japanese crowd with this game. Speaking in a video, the game’s art director Joel Emslie revealed a special cover for the Japanese version of Titanfall 2, featuring BT-7274 with the Ronin’s Sword. Emslie cited inspiration from Japanese culture and media, naming examples like Macross, Akira, Gundam, and Ghost in the Shell.
I mean, hey, Titanfall 2 may end up being the rare shooter that’s successful in Japan, too (so far Nintendo’s Splatoon is the only instance of the genre that has made any headway there). Titanfall 2 will release on October 28 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One worldwide, including in Japan.
