While the original reveal of the skateboarder roster for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 didn’t include skateboarding legend Bam Margera, he was eventually added in back to the roster at the last minute. According to The Live Club podcast co-host Roger Bagley, the credit for Margera being part of the skateboarding title’s roster goes to Tony Hawk.

“Well, here’s what happened,” said Bagley, as caught by VGC. “The game was already done. Tony called up Activision and was like ‘hey, we’re putting Bam in the thing’, and they were like ‘hey, we can’t’. He goes ‘no, you’re gonna do it’, and basically made them fly Bam back out there to get body-scanned and everything else, and get him back in the game.”

“So this might be news that’s not out there yet, though?” asked co-host Chris Roberts, to which Bagley responded “Probably.”

For some context, Bam Margera has been a part of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series roster since the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. Since that title, Margera has been consistently part of the franchise’s roster for quite a few years.

Issues that may have led to Margera’s exclusion from the upcoming remakes likely have to do with the skateboarder’s history with substance abuse. Things got bad enough that he was even fired from Jackass Forever, along with getting a restraining order from director Jeff Tremaine.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was officially announced earlier this month with a trailer, and is being developed for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. The game is slated for release on July 11.

As its name implies, it will be a remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, along with new features like new game modes and expansions to the Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park features we last saw in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. The game will also feature cross-platform multiplayer.

While parts remaking Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 will be largely faithful to the original in terms of its main arcade-styled campaign mode, the free-roaming career mode from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 will not be returning. Publisher Activision revealed that, rather than having the career mode, the levels for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 will instead be structured like the previous games, with players being set loose in a level with a time limit and a list of objectives to complete.

For fans that might be interested in picking up Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, Activision has revealed details about the upcoming game’s various editions. The Standard Edition will be available for $49.99, alongside a Digital Deluxe Edition priced at $69.99. The latter includes the Doom Slayer and Revenant from the DOOM franchise as playable characters.

Along with the characters, grabbing the Digital Deluxe Edition will also get you access to in-game music from the DOOM series, as well as Skate Decks and skater apparel based on the shooter. Pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition will also let you play the game three days before its July 11 release date, alongside access to a demo featuring the Foundry level from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3.
