7. Final Fantasy V
Just like a lot of Final Fantasy games, and all those listed in this list so far, Final Fantasy V was received with mixed reviews- its story was predictable and weak, its characters were forgettable, and yet, it was still a very enjoyable game. FFV’s job system will always be amongst the best innovations in a Final Fantasy game, its combat was fun, deep and addictive, and the campaign was a long, enjoyable experience. The SNES versions was great, the PSOne version was a bit of a chore, and the GBA version was a whole another story- it was the best FFV version ever. For all Final Fantasy fan, Final Fantasy V is one heck of a game. For others, it’s still one heck of a game.
6. Final Fantasy IX
What didn’t Final Fantasy IX get right? Music? Story? Characters? Gameplay? Everything Final Fantasy IX did, it did almost perfectly. The ability system was perfect, the learning curve was perfect, the character progression was perfect, the villain was a total badass, the cutscenes were beautifully directed and look visually stunning. The few things that one could fault FFIX for- the Trance system, the typical RPG story and setting- were nothing too big, and did not make the game any less awesome. Everything came together in Final Fantasy IX to deliver one of the best RPG experiences of all time.
5. Final Fantasy Tactics
Forget about every bad thing you’ve heard about Final Fantasy Tactics- the story, the inconsistent difficulty, everything. Just know this- Final Fantasy Tactics is a hell of a game, is a whole lot of fun, and is an experience you will never forget. Doesn’t matter if you’ve never played a Final Fantasy game before, doesn’t matter if you don’t like RPGs, doesn’t matter if you don’t like strategy games. Final Fantasy Tactics is a game everyone can play, and enjoy.
