Dead Space 2 begins with a video call between Isaac and his long term girlfriend Nicole. Her sweet manner and looks are offset by the apparition that follows Isaac throughout the game posing as her from then on. The beams of light that shine from her eyes and mouth define her unnatural and twisted ways, and it makes every encounter with her a dreaded one.
