Far Cry 3
Far Cry is one of the defining PC shooters of the previous decade and Far Cry 2, though made by a separate developer and turned into a more console friendly title, upped the ante with its awesome fire and wind effects. The Far Cry games have always been classic cool, so Ubisoft’s tentative 2012 release date for Far Cry 3 is an exciting prospect indeed.
Prototype 2
Whilst PS3 owners got the lightning based adventures of Infamous back in 2009, the rest of us turned to Prototype for our super powered open world needs. We were not disappointed. There was still clearly room for the franchise to evolve though, so the upcoming release of Prototype 2 shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. If you’re still hankering to terrorise the populace with mutated powers, then this one ought to satiate your hunger next year.
Bioshock: Infinite
One look at the above gameplay video will give you all the reasons you need to start getting excited about Bioshock Infinite. It looks set to have the same visual expression and engaging character relationships as the original Bioshock but, most importantly, it looks set to have some adrenaline pumping gameplay as well. With a cool selection of weapons and powers, as well as the faster paced gameplay offered by the skyline mechanics, Bioshock Infinite will offer some awesome action gameplay on a number of levels when it releases next year.
The Next Call of Duty
If history is anything to go by, (and it often is) we’ll be seeing another Treyarch developed Call of Duty title hit store shelves sometime in November. Though they never quite get the same hype and recognition as their Infinity Ward born brethren, Treyarch tend to be more creative with their settings, wowing us with a variety of different time periods and subsequent narrative techniques. Oh, and I forgot to mention that you can shoot loads of people. Cool settings and stories are all well and good but, after a hard day’s work, sometimes you just want to shoot a virtual guy in the head.
