3. Plants vs Zombies
One of the best tower defence game ever made, Plants vs Zombies has the humour, style and gameplay of a blockbuster retail launch for a fraction of the price. You can also run it on most modern phones. This cheeky zombie defence title works perfectly on the go, and the quick fire rounds of garden-planting zombie slaying action keep you coming back for more.
2. Left 4 Dead
Surviving a horrible zombie apocalypse is always better with friends, and Valve’s awesome Left 4 Dead brought this idea to the fore. With fun and simplistic shooting mechanics and a genuine need for teamwork, L4D has since become one of the best multiplayer games of all time. Add in some complex director AI that randomly generates new gameplay scenarios, and you’re in for an industry defining experience. Left 4 Dead 2 added a few new elements, but it lacked the charm and tight level design of the original.
1. Resident Evil
Though it wasn’t the first ever title in the genre, the original Resident Evil was the earliest example of a zombie horror game that received mass acclaim. Though later sequels would go on to improve and alter the original formula drastically, the original was one of the most pioneering games ever. Released back in the humble year of 1996, RE spearheaded horror, 3D environments and properly constructed atmosphere in gaming. Later RE games are enjoyable enough, but they veered too much from the original horror roots to focus more on action. Of the original horror Resident Evil games, the first one remains the most iconic.
