Run’n’gunnin’ side scrollers are more common these days with indie developers harkening back to their childhood roots.  Cobalt is particularly special out of the lot.  Frantic gameplay, ever increasing difficulty, quick change slow motion, rolling, and a freaking cute Robot creating destruction in pretty neon lights on create what seems to be a pretty magical platforming experience.  Oh, and you can buy upgrades, so you rpg fanatics may need to take a look as well.  For those who want the play the closest thing to BB-8 in game form.
