Mass Effect (November 2007)
Probably one of the only games from this generation that will be remembered as time goes on, Mass Effect has been stated by many to be the best game ever created, and those people aren’t much off the mark. Mass Effect is an all new step in interactive story-telling. To have a story as good as that in Mass Effect, and deliver it as wonderfully is something that no game can boast of having done. BioWare proved their worth with the release of Mass Effect, and even more so with each of their subsequent releases.
Gears of War (November 2006)
Gears of War was the Xbox 360’s first killer app, and a killer app it was indeed. Gears of War was truly revolutionary, and brought light to how brilliant a developing team Epic was. With a fast paced, relentless, adrenaline heavy single player campaign and a decent multiplayer mode to boast of, games try to mimic the success and awesomeness of Gears of War till this very day. With Gears of War 3 coming out next year, while we are sad to say goodbye to this awesome franchise, we simply cannot wait for the epic finale in this grand saga.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (November 2007)
Here it is- what is said to be the best Call of Duty game ever, and the game with the best multiplayer component across all platforms and generations and genres and whatnots. Modern Warfare marked the beginning of a new era for the Call of Duty series, as it took the franchise away from the World War setting, and defined the entire First Person Shooter genre this generation, by bringing in a very exciting and thrilling single player campaign and a great multiplayer component with a ton of modes that had till date kept us addicted to it. All hail Modern Warfare!
Red Dead Redemption (May 2010)
This- this is what everyone wanted GTAIV to be like, and so, Rockstar gave it to us. A spectacular adventure that actually makes you feel like a cowboy in the Wild West, a gripping story that keeps you involved all throughout, really fun gameplay and a great multiplayer mode that will keep players hooked and addicted for months and months at ends, if not years. This is what Red Dead Redemption is. An awesome game, and few other sandbox games this generation can hope to match RDR’s quality.
Halo: Reach (September 2010)
By now, most of you might have played Halo: Reach at least once, and those of you who have also played Halo 3 might notice the huge improvements Reach makes over it. Halo: Reach has completely and irrevocably trounced Halo 3 when it comes to single player. Reach has the best campaign ever in any Halo game, better even than Combat Evolved, and that is saying something. Epic cutscenes, tense and thrilling missions, though, are not half as good as the USP of the game- the multiplayer. The multiplayer, again, is the best we have ever seen in any Halo game, what with it adding a ton of new modes and customization tools and tweaks to the already perfect Halo 3 MP mode, and of course, the Firefight mode.
