52. XCOM: UFO Defense
Created in 1995 X-COM: UFO Defense mixed real-time management with turn-based tactics. The player is tasked with issuing orders to individual X-COM troops in a series of tactical missions. The game received strong reviews and commercially was quite successful, acquiring a cult following among strategy fans. It was also infamous for introducing permanent unit death, which made from some truly heart breaking moments unusual to games at the time.
