Final Fantasy II (NES) is the only game in the series that doesn’t use the standard magic system
Final Fantasy II tried to do different things and tried to mix up the gameplay a bit. The evidence is shown in the spell system, where the developers tried to take on a different approach by giving you spells and let you power them up through 16 tiers.
