Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Hideo Koijma’s magnum opus and the thrilling epilogue to Ground Zeroes could either be a narrative masterpiece or a theatrical mess but Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain looks excellent. Going truly open world for the first time, Ground Zeroes exemplified why the FOX Engine was so amazing. Not only could it render realistic character models, several different light sources and make use of strong draw distance (with minimal pop-in on consoles) but it could do so while incorporating real-time weather effects and post-process anti-aliasing.
Factor all that into The Phantom Pain which will be even bigger than before, not to mention the added development time that Kojima Productions has had to further polish the experience, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most graphically intensive games of this year. Now, about that release date…
