As Saber Interactive has been working on revival of old-school shooter franchise Turok with the upcoming Turok: Origins, the studio has now confirmed that performance of the game will be quite choppy on the Xbox Series S. During a presentation at Gamescom 2025, as caught by WCCFTech, game director Jesús Iglesias confirmed that the Xbox Series S isn’t able to run Turok: Origins at 60 FPS.

He did note, however, that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the upcoming shooter are targetting a stable frame rate of 60 FPS. The title is also making its way to PC. However, the studio is yet to confirm the hardware requirements for the PC version of the title. Considering the fact that the Xbox Series S might be facing difficulties in getting higher frame rates, the PC requirements will likely be higher than average.

Turok: Origins was announced back in December 2024 during The Game Awards. Announced with a trailer, Turok: Origins will offer a story that can be experienced either in single-player, or through co-op. Players will take on the role of Turok warriors as they take on enemies ranging from aliens, to massive dinosaurs. To help with this, players will have access to a wide arsenal of weaponry, from bows and hatchets to sniper rifles, plasma rifles and shotguns.

Weapons in Turok: Origins can also be upgraded by collecting DNA samples from vanquished foes. Through this progression system, players will also be able to unlock new abilities for themselves, which will further open up the kinds of threats that players can take on, both on the land and in the air.

It is worth noting that, considering its co-op and progression focus, Turok: Origins will be quite different from previous games in the franchise, which have instead focused on telling their stories through linear level design and fast-paced, frantic action. Despite these differences, however, Iglesias has noted that the title will be a “respectful” revival of the franchise.

“If there’s one thing we know how to do at Saber, it’s how to treat games based on well-known IPs respectfully, and Turok: Origins is no exception,” he said.

Iglesias also brought up comparisons with Saber Interactive’s other co-op shooter, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, noting that players can expect a similar level of quality, polish, and production values from Turok: Origins.

Space Marine 2 players have experienced the quality and production values that are standard at Saber, and they can be found in Turok: Origins as well,” said Iglesias. “We hope that a compelling narrative and great single player and co-op gameplay will also appeal to players who enjoyed Space Marine 2.”

Turok: Origins is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and is being made using Unreal Engine 5. The title doesn’t yet have a release, however. In the meantime, for players that might want to revisit the classic Turok titles, check out our review of Turok: Shadow of Oblivion Remaster, where we gave it a score of 8 out of 10.
