Ubisoft are the masters of selling their games at absurdly large scales- just look at how well they manage to sell Assassin’s Creed each year, for example. They have also had some great luck launching new IP- just this generation, they launched Watch Dogs, which remains one of the largest new IP launches of this console cycle.
But even Watch Dogs will pale against what Ubisoft hopes The Division launch will be- which they hope will be one of the largest new IP launches in history.
“The Division – whose recent closed beta exceeded all of our expectations – is set to be one of the largest launches of a new brand in the history of the video game industry,” Ubisoft said in their financial earnings release.
Pre-release response to The Division has been extraordinarily strong, and it does look like it will break all records, when it finally launches this March for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
