Unicorn Overlord

While the coming months are full of big-name RPGs like Dragon’s Dogma 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Persona 3 Reload, Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord is definitely worth a look. It’s a tactical role-playing game with a 2D art style and focuses on Alain, the crown prince of the former Kingdom of Cornia, as he ventures Fevirth to defeat the Zenoira Empire.

In a new trailer, Josef, Alain’s friend and knight, explains the basics of exploration. There were five nations before Zenoira’s reign of terror, and players can freely travel through them. You’ll encounter Quests along the way, from helping people to defeating bandits, which can lead to rewards (and even new recruits). The Quest List keeps track of everything, so if something is too difficult, you can always return to it later.

As you venture through the realms, Settlements and Forts claimed by Zenoira must be liberated. Doing so provides access to their facilities, but restoring towns allows Taverns to re-open. They offer meals with different benefits (while also looking sumptuous).

Unicorn Overlord launches on March 8th for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch, and promises over 100 hours of content. The next trailer will focus on interactions with other members of the Liberation Army, so stay tuned. You can learn more about exploration and other activities here.
