Valve Software’s online digital gaming platform Steam has marked not one but two new milestones with 100 million active user accounts and 3700 total games in its library. It’s a significant achievement especially when you consider that Valve announced 75 million active accounts this past January 2014. The number of users online at any given time is a different matter altogether – it’s not as if there are 100 million people online at any given time.
The increase in games is something else, especially when you consider that 1300 games were added this year as compared to 304 titles added in the same time frame last year. It really paints a picture of how far services like Origin and UPlay have to go in order to compete with Steam.
This announcement coincides with the new Steam Discovery feature which makes it easier for users to find new releases and obscure indie titles alike. Thoughts on Steam’s success? Let us know in the comments.
