Vanquish 2: 10 Things That Need To Change

More varied objectives

The running and gunning was fun, but we need a break from it now and then

Whilst the core gunplay in Vanquish was a real blast, it wasn’t often used in the most creative of ways. Sometimes we saw fresh objectives coming in, but more often than not we just shot every enemy in the vicinity over and over again. More regularly varied mission objectives would help Vanquish stay fresh, and it would lend the game a more steady sense of progression and momentum.

Greater texture variety

So many shades of white and blue

The game world in Vanquish had a lot of potential, but the sepulchre cityscape began to get a bit repetitive after a while. Whilst most modern shooters suffer from using too rigid a dark green and brown colour palette, Vanquish just used far too many white textures. A greater visual variety in the levels would help engage players further in the Vanquish universe.

More creative weapons

You'd think a game set in the future could provide a few new weapon types

The ARS blade system made for unique and beautiful equipment animations, and the mild levelling elements applied to weapon use added an element of long term strategy to Vanquish’s gunplay. The actual weapon designs were fairly standard though, with your usual collection of rifles, shotguns and grenades. Being a science fiction inspired universe I was hoping for a bit more creativity in this department. Let’s hope Vanquish 2 will deliver on this then.
